Employer sponsorship

You run a business and have found the right person overseas, or you already employ someone whose permission to work is ending. We handle the employer side as well as the employee’s application, and remind you of your obligations afterwards.

What we do, and what you do

We check whether your business can sponsor, what the role needs to show, and what you’ll be responsible for once your new hire starts.

We prepare the employer paperwork and the employee’s application side by side so the dates line up, then send you a list of the obligations that continue after a decision.

What you’ll usually need

A starting list, not the final one. Your document plan will be written for your case.

  • Business registration and trading records

  • The position description and salary

  • Evidence of how you advertised the role, if required

  • The candidate’s passport, qualifications and references

What can change the outcome

Both the business and the candidate are assessed. A role described differently in two documents, a salary below the required level or missing trading records can each hold things up. We look for these before anything is lodged.

This page is general information, not advice about your case. We’ll tell you what applies to you at your first meeting.

Common questions about this pathway

Something else on your mind? Ask it in your first meeting, or send it to us any time.

How long before our new hire can start?

That depends on the route and on government processing times. We give you a realistic range at the start and plan the paperwork backwards from your preferred start date.

What happens if the employee leaves?

Sponsors usually have reporting duties when a sponsored employee leaves or changes role. We’ll remind you what to do, and by when.

Five steps from first meeting to decision

The same process for every pathway: one adviser, a written plan, and no surprises on the bill.
