In many countries, paid immigration advice must come from a registered adviser. How to check, and what to watch for.
In many countries, anyone who gives immigration advice for a fee must be registered or licensed. A registered adviser is accountable for the advice they give you.
Ask for the number
A registered adviser will give you their registration number without hesitating. Ours is at the foot of every page on this website.
Look it up yourself
Search for the number on the regulator’s public register. Check that the name matches and that the registration is current.
Watch for red flags
A promise that your application will succeed
Pressure to pay in cash or sign on the spot
An offer to hold on to your passport or original documents
